Nurturing support in the precious early days and weeks

The early days and weeks after your baby arrives can be some of the most beautiful and most overwhelming of your life. Your body is recovering, your emotions are heightened, sleep is scarce and suddenly everything feels uncertain, and sometimes overwhelming. Having someone experienced, gentle and genuinely caring by your side during this time can make all the difference to how you experience those precious first moments as a family.

As your postnatal doula, I'm here to help you transition into parenthood at your own pace. At your welcome consultation call we'll create a postnatal plan together, so you're clear on your goals and how we're going to achieve them, whether that's support with your recovery, help with your baby's feeding and care needs, guidance as your wider family adjusts, or simply having someone there who is entirely focused on your wellbeing.

My postnatal support is hands-on and practical. I can help with infant care, sleep, breastfeeding support, light household tasks and meal preparation, as well as providing complementary therapies to support your physical recovery and emotional wellbeing. But just as importantly, I'm there as a calm, reassuring presence - a listening ear when things feel hard, a source of encouragement when you doubt yourself, and someone who will remind you that you're doing an incredible job. Being an attachment parent myself this is the style of parenting I gravitate to most, but is by no means the only way of parenting I'll support - you decide what is right for you and your baby and I'll be there to help you follow it through.

I'll also help you access support networks and resources in your area, so that when our time together comes to an end you feel confident and connected rather than alone. Text, video and phone support is included throughout, so you can feel held even when I'm not physically there. Many parents tell me that knowing they could reach out at any time was one of the most valuable parts of the service.

Every family's postnatal needs are different, so there is no rigid package here. Your support is built entirely around you, your circumstances, your priorities and your budget. Whether you need a few visits in the first week or ongoing support across several months, we'll shape something that fits your life perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a postnatal doula actually do?

A postnatal doula provides hands-on practical and emotional support in the weeks after birth. This typically includes help with infant care and feeding, sleep, breastfeeding guidance, light household tasks and meal preparation, complementary therapies to support physical recovery, emotional wellbeing support, and connecting you with local resources and support networks.

When should I arrange postnatal doula support?

Ideally during pregnancy, so a postnatal plan can be created before your baby arrives. However, you can arrange support at any point after birth too, there is no deadline. Some families book before their due date, while others reach out in the early weeks when they realise they need additional help.

How long does postnatal doula support last?

There is no fixed duration. Support is shaped around your specific needs and can range from a few visits in the first week to ongoing sessions across several months. A postnatal plan is created together during a welcome consultation call so the structure, frequency and focus of visits are agreed in advance. However, I understand that things can change rapidly in this time of life, so I will always be as flexible and sensitive to any changing needs as possible.

Can a postnatal doula help with breastfeeding?

Yes. Postnatal doula support can include practical breastfeeding guidance such as positioning, latch and education on typical feeding behaviour. I have done specific training to be able to support you with this optimally. Doulas like myself can (and should) also help you access clinical lactation support if needed. Guidance is non-judgemental and applies equally to breastfeeding, bottle feeding, combination feeding or any approach you choose.

Is postnatal doula support available remotely?

Yes. Text, video call and phone support is included throughout the postnatal period, so you can reach out at any time between in-person visits. Remote support is particularly valued by parents who have questions outside of scheduled sessions or who need reassurance during unsociable hours.

What is the difference between a postnatal doula and a maternity nurse?

A maternity nurse typically focuses on newborn care routines and overnight support, often working independently. A postnatal doula takes a more holistic approach, supporting the entire family's wellbeing - including your physical and emotional recovery, feeding support, household help, and helping the family adjust as a whole unit.
