Parenting and Newborn Care Classes
Practical skills and confidence for new parents
There is no shortage of information out there on how to look after a newborn, the trouble is that much of it is conflicting, outdated or simply not relevant to your family. It can leave you feeling more overwhelmed than prepared. My parenting and newborn care classes cut through the noise and give you the practical skills, knowledge and confidence you actually need to feel ready for life with your new baby.
Unlike generic group classes that take a one-size-fits-all approach, my sessions are bespoke and fully tailored to you. We'll focus on the topics that matter most to your family, whether that's baby care essentials, safe sleep, safe use of car seats and slings, infant first aid, feeding, bathing, soothing techniques, brain development and reflex integration, understanding your baby's cues, or navigating the emotional adjustment that comes with becoming a parent.
I offer both private 1:1 sessions and small group classes, so you can choose whatever feels most comfortable. Private sessions are ideal if you want dedicated time to ask all the questions you might feel silly asking elsewhere (there are no silly questions, by the way), while group classes offer a lovely opportunity to connect with other parents who are on the same journey.
These classes are perfect for first-time parents, but equally valuable if you're welcoming a second or third baby and want a refresher or to explore something new. Partners, grandparents and other family members who'll be involved in your baby's care are always welcome to join.
Sessions can be held in person at a location of your choosing or virtually, and can be booked individually or as a package depending on how much ground you'd like to cover. Everything is flexible and shaped around your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do newborn care classes cover?
Classes are tailored to your family and typically cover baby care essentials such as nappy changing and bathing, safe sleep guidance in line with current Lullaby Trust recommendations, infant first aid (coming soon - please check for availability), safe use of car seats and slings, feeding options and techniques, soothing and settling methods, understanding your baby's cues and communication, supporting infant reflex integration and brain development, and the emotional adjustment to becoming a parent.
Are newborn care classes useful for second-time parents?
Yes. Guidelines and best practices on topics like safe sleep, infant first aid and feeding evolve regularly, so a refresher can be valuable even for experienced parents. Classes are also a chance to explore new topics you did not cover first time around and the safety of any new products that may have come to market. Partners, grandparents and other family members involved in your baby's care are welcome to attend.
What is the difference between private and group newborn classes?
Private 1:1 sessions are fully tailored to your family and provide dedicated time to ask questions at your own pace. Small group classes cover the same core content that can be adapted to the group, but also offer an opportunity to meet other parents at a similar stage. Both formats are available in person throughout Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Hertfordshire and London, or virtually via video call. I can also offer a hybrid approach.
Can grandparents or other family members attend the classes?
Yes. Anyone who will be involved in caring for your baby is welcome to attend. This is particularly helpful when grandparents are providing regular childcare, as it ensures everyone is up to date on current safe sleep guidance, first aid and feeding best practices.
Do newborn care classes include infant first aid?
Classes will shortly include practical infant first aid covering topics such as choking response, CPR and how to recognise common signs of illness in newborns. Content will be aligned with current paediatric first aid guidance and taught in a calm, supportive way so you feel confident rather than anxious. Please check for availability - I work alone so it may be that I can offer this service before I get round to updating my website.
When is the best time to take newborn care classes?
Most parents attend during the third trimester of pregnancy, typically between 30 and 36 weeks, so the information is fresh when their baby arrives. However, classes can be taken at any point, including after your baby is born, and content is adapted accordingly.
