My name is Yas. I'm a doula and birthkeeper working predominantly in Norfolk, and the founder of Birth Beautiful. I also work virtually and travel nationwide, or even globally, when families have a strong desire to be supported by me. I am here to provide you with support that is just as unique as you are - whether that is to help you have a beautiful, healthy birth, navigate a loss or assist you in the postpartum period.

About Birth Beautiful

About Birth Beautiful

I have a comprehensive and inclusive understanding of the pregnancy, birth and postnatal experiences…

My early career consisted of running children's groups, babysitting, and teaching English whilst completing my secondary education at an international school in Istanbul.  I flourished in the expat community, discovering and adapting to new cultures during my time there. I initially thought that I’d pursue a career in the performing arts, but I discovered an interest in biology and childhood development in my teenage years which led me to pursue a psychology degree. I later became a nanny, through which I learned about the wonderful highs – and challenging lows – of family life, especially around the vulnerable time of introducing a new baby.  While I never finished my psychology degree, I still have a very strong interest in mental health, development and public health, all of which underpin the support I give as a doula. After completing a CertHE in Healthcare with Health Science, and having my son, I started my midwifery degree.  It is no secret that maternity services is struggling at the moment, so I am sure that it comes as no surprise that my journey into midwifery has been a rocky one filled with the most incredible highs, but also very challenging lows.

I am also a mum

My pregnancy was complicated by Hyperemesis Gravidarum and was not a positive experience for me. My care before, during and after birth was disappointing. Since then I have seen change in the maternity world and it gives me hope for the future, but there is still a lot to do!

I became a doula because I want to provide you with an experience that you will cherish forever

I have now had the honour of supporting many families through their birth, loss and maternity journeys. From homebirths to elective caesareans and physiological miscarriages to termination of pregnancy. Plans adhered to, and those that don’t quite go as hoped. While the vast majority of my clients have the birth of their dreams, I am also there in times of the unexpected – the complexities, the interventions, those moments when it can all feel overwhelming. But no matter the outcome, I ensure the families I work with always look back on their journey with the satisfaction that they were supported, respected and cared for in the way everyone should be.
